Recorded live In "An Teach Beag", O’Donovan’s Hotel, Clonakilty, West Cork, on February 5th & 6th 2003.

" Clonakilty, West Cork, is steeped in traditions, from its colourful shop fronts to its Blackpudding recipes. The old streets of the town reveal many secrets of its past. One such place is Recorder’s Alley, situated beside O’Donovan’s hotel, off Pearse Street. Recorder’s Alley was referred to in the 1790’s when the frugal housewives of this alley were seen preparing fish for the fish market. Today Recorder’s Alley is home to An Teach Beag, a quaint little pub, run by the O’Donovan family as a traditional music house. It is the focal point for traditional music in West Cork, having music seven nights a week during the summer season and in winter, around the open crackling fire at weekends. This cd is just a dip in the well of music to be heard in this unique pub." (Taken from album notes.)

Track #11 - I don’t know where the name "Colonel Braxton" came from, but this tune has been a reel in Scotland for a long time now as "Sir David Davidson Of Cantray". This is a nice whistle track, the first tune being yet another fine air composed by John Sheahan.

Also - my CD has 19 tracks, not 18 - ending with "Her Mantle So Green / Connie O’Connell’s".
"The King’s Shilling" - track #18 - is a song written by Ian Sinclair of Thurso, in the North of Scotland.

Re: Sessions From…..

This is really weird - I’ve just let the last track run on, and there’s somebody playing "Santa Maria" on bells or glockenspiel or something after "Connie O’Connell’s" jig fades out. Thought I was hallucinating for a minute.
