Re: O Cheartlar Mo Chroi / Spring In The Air
This was a real find on eBay. I’d never heard of Vincent McGrath, who is an accordion player from Rossport, Co. Mayo. He is a nephew of fiddler John McGrath, fiddle player and composer who died in New York in 1955. These tunes - 28 tracks of them - are all original compositions, and I can’t think of any recording with such a high quality of new tunes. On the basis of this recording, I’d put Vincent right up there with Messrs Reavy, Fahy and Lennon. Can’t understand how I’ve never heard of him or his music before. I suppose he is an excellent example of the many, many talented yet self-effacing musicians in Ireland who don’t seek any sort of fame or fortune, but are content just to play their music in their local communities.

I’ve just noticed that the first 5 tracks have been posted here by “52Paddy” 11 years ago. If you want examples of the quality of compositions on this recording, check them out.

This recording has never received the accolades it deserves. A great collection of his own compositions and his accordion/melodeon playing and accompaniment are superb.
