Re: The High Seas
I plan to pick this up but haven’t yet. Really love their playing. I was hoping it would have the tune MOVING HOME on it. Maybe next recording….

Re: The High Seas
Are these young folks related to the Donegal legends in Altan?
Re: The High Seas
I believe Ciaran is related to Mairead of "Altan" - possibly a nephew ?
Re: The High Seas
Ciarán is Mairéad’s nephew via her brother Gearóid.
Caitlín is the daughter of Antóin Mac Gabhann (https://comhaltas.ie/music/treoir/detail/antoin_mac_gabhann_the_master_musician_of_mullahoran/) and is married to Ciarán.
The website (https://www.caitlin.ie/thehighseas/) makes no reference to Ciarán Curran (Ó Curráin) of Altan, but the surname is not uncommon in the Gweedore area. Cathal was a member of the excellent young band An Crann Óg.
By sheer coincidence, as I was typing this message the postie delivered a copy of The High Seas’ album.
Re: The High Seas
I’ve really been enjoying this recording. Hope this group stays together for some more releases. Really enjoy Cathal Ó Curráin’s vocals as well.
In the middle of track 10 (An Cailin Rua) there are two reels played. Anyone know the names of them? I’ve got the download - if they’re given in the CD liner notes I don’t have access to that.
Re: The High Seas
I’ll check the cd when I get home Bribak. I don’t have it with me at the moment. There are detailed notes/booklet so hopefully it will name them for you.
Re: The High Seas
According to the notes the two tunes are ‘The Flogging Reel’ and ‘Dinky Dorrian’s’.
Re: The High Seas
Thank you Gonzo. Much appreciated!
