John L. MacDonald: fiddle
Doug Macphee: piano

The fiddling here isn’t always perfect, but I get the feeling that, like many older fiddlers, MacDonald was past his prime for this recording. This recording hints at an even better past for this fiddler. I do particularly like the interesting tune selections. The way MacDonald alternates "the first part of "Greig’s Pipes" with both parts of "The Straw Man" is fascinating, not to mention that "Bridge of Bamore" just after that in the set is a great tune. That’s just one example. Otherwise, it has a very quaint feel, no overproduction, no studio stuff. Just two guys playing music, and well.

Is this CD available to purchase in Europe?

It was on iTunes last I checked, so it may be available that way in Europe (I’m in the US).
