Re: Ulster’s Flowery Vale
The music on this album released by BBC Radio Enterprises in 1969 originally appeared in two radio programmes on the Northern Ireland Home Service, produced by David Hammond. As far as I am aware, it has never been reissued in CD format. My copy of the LP is Mono.
The musicians and singers appearing on the album all came from the six counties of Northern Ireland with the exception of Barney McKenna, who qualifies by virtue of parentage.
Here’s the list.
Seán McAloon - uilleann pipes (tracks 1, 5, 13, 15 and 21)
Tommy Gunn - fiddle (1, 5, 15, 19 and 21)
Cathal McConnell - flute (1, 5, 12, 15, 19 and 21)
David Hammond - vocals (2 and 18)
Barney McKenna - banjo (3 8 and 10)
Sarah Makem - vocals (4 and 20
Michael McCann -lilting (6 and 11)
George (more usually known as Geordie) Hanna - vocals (7 and 16)
Seán McGuire - fiddle (8, 10 and 17)
Jerry Hicks - vocals (9 and 14)
