Re: The Otherworld CD1

This is the first of two CDs which accompanied the book ‘The Otherworld: Music and Song from Irish Tradition’, edited by Rionach uí Ógáin and Tom Sherlock, published in 2012 by Comhairle Bhéaloideas Éireann (The Folklore of Ireland Council). There’s more information at http://www.comhairlebheal.ie/publications.html but the book sadly seems to be out-of-print, though copies are available at places like The Book Depository and some Irish bookshops still have it in stock.

Re: The Otherworld CD1

This was the first book to explore the relationship between Ireland’s traditional music and the Otherworld, a dimension existing above, beyond and below the material world, and one inhabited by all manner of supernatural creatures and the conjuring of supernatural events. The Folklore of Ireland Council has a huge library of material collected from the country’s inhabitants over the years.

The book itself is rich in photographs and stories and it’s accompanying forty tracks of archive material (songs, tunes and stories) covers twenty-three counties of the island of Ireland. The exceptions are Offaly, Derry and, despite this tune (https://thesession.org/tunes/563), Longford.

The contributors on the first CD are as follows:

1) Mickey Connors; 2) Mickey Doherty; 3) Citi Seáin Ní Chuinneagáin; 4) Austin Flanagan; 5) P.J. Duffy; 6) Michael Coleman; 7) Stephen Murphy; 8) Seán Ó Catháin; 9) Darren MagAoidh; 10) Róisín Elsafty; 11) Néillidh Boyle; 12) Peadar Ó Ceannabháin; 13) Mag Doyle; 14) Micho Russell; 15) Saileog Ní Cheannabháin; 16) John Stokes; 17) Muiris Ó Dálaigh; 18) Ciarán Ó Gealbháin; Máire Ní Bheirn; and, 21) Rónán Galvin.
