What happened to the band Calua?
Can anyone tell me what happened to Seamus MacConnaonaigh, the flute player
and also his band mate Damien Quinn, and also the guitar player Padraig O Broin?
They had an album out a while ago called:
Bothar Gan Briseadh / Down the Line
Calua (name of band)
Ceol Calua
CALCD 001
they had a critique in Irish Music Magazine Sept. 1997 CD reviews. I caught a great MP3 of them playing and loved the tune:
O Bheal Easa Go Beal Atha and also the tune: Hopkins de Buenos Aires (it may have been on Brendon White’s Bodhran Website: http://www.bodhran.nl/site/index/insound)
Damien Quinn performed with Donal Lunny as well around the same time??
“Calua”
You could ask Padraig himself.

Damien Quinn did play with Donal Lunny’s band, but I would have thought that about 10 years before “Calua”.
Track 1 , Gan Ainm….
“Paddy Fahy’s” on track 3

By Paddy O’Brien, not Paddy Fahy.

I’ve been listening to this again these past few days. In particular, I’d forgotten how good Padraig O’Broin’s guitar solo, “Taoimse Im Chodladh” is - absolutely steals the show. Nobody has actually said what a good recording this is, - a wee gem, - but as an “own-label” recording from 1997, you’re not likely to come across it these days.
PS - ignore the “Bandcamp” link above. Someone else altogether.
