It Could Be a Good Night Yet! Oíche go Maidean

By Brendan Begley

Five comments

Melodeonist/accordeonist and singer Begley is assisted by Neil Martin (cello, keyboards, whistle) and Noel O’Grady (bouzouki) on the most rugged, honest, passionate of CDs.

Brendan’s melodeon on this recording?

Does anyone know what brand of melodeon Brendan plays on this recording?

Re: Oíche Go Maidean

He plays a C#/D button accordion on some tracks and what looks to be a Hohner (4 stopper) one row melodeon on other tracks (1,2, and 11)

Second tune - track 4 is Tom Billy’s slide but can’t find it on this site. It may also be a Johnny O’Leary tune but still can’t track it here.

Re: Oíche Go Maidean

TunePal returns two of the same slides called Tom Billy’s as the most likely result. The source of the tune is listed as Johnny O’Leary (unsure whether he composed it or not). Here’s the abc’s of that tune, from Bill Black’s transcriptions:

X: 1
T: Tom Billy’s
R: slide
M: 12/8
L: 1/8
K: Dmaj

A quick search of thesession data base using the above didn’t turn up any tunes. Could be here, somewhere.
