Carmel Gunning - Cathair Shligigh (2019)

This album was released to mark Sligo whistle player Carmel Gunning’s 50-year-long career in traditional music. For details, read this article: https://www.independent.ie/regionals/sligochampion/entertainment/new-cd-and-songbooks-out-soon-to-mark-a-remarkable-career-in-traditional-music-38514415.html

Carmel’s own compositions sit really well with old tunes. The guest musician is Junior Davey, who supplies tasteful bodhran accompaniment. The last two tracks were actually the kitchen recordings from the early 1980s, featuring Tom O’Dowd (accordion), Josie McDermott (flute), Tommy Flynn (fiddle), J.J. Doherty (whistle), Seamus Reynolds (flute), and Brendan O’Dowd (bodhran).
