Re: Hurry the Jug: Classic Recordings of Songs, Lilting and Storytelling in the Irish Tradition
Released in 1995 on the Globestyle label as part of the Ron Kavana-coordinated series of collections of Irish traditional music and song from the archives of Topic, this is a thoroughly enjoyable collection.
Those featured are in track order are:
& 2 - Tom Lenihan from Clare;
& 4 - Packie Manus Byrne (Donegal);
& 6 - Mary Ann Carolan (Louth);
& 8 - John ‘Jacko’ Reilly (Leitrim);
& 10 - Paddy Tunney (Fermanagh);
& 12 - Joe Heaney (Galway);
& 14 - Sarah Makem (Armagh);
& 16 - Robert Cinnamond (Antrim);
& 18 - Geordie Hanna (Tyrone)
& 20 - Seán ‘ac Dhonncha (Galway);
& 22 - Kevin Mitchell (Derry);
& 24 - Josie McDermott (Sligo, though just a hop and a skip from Roscommon and not that far from Leitrim too). Josie’s song, ‘Moorlough Mary’, was learned from Paddy Tunney, and his two reels here are lilted.
