Comhaltas Session in Forkhill

This is a session ran by the local Ring of Gullion CCE Branch, there has been a regular tuesday session in the Welcome Inn since 1975. Beginners are always welcome and encouraged. In the Summer months the sessions form part of the Ring of Gullion Festival of Traditional Music and feature Guest Artists, our Guests are all very well known and outstanding musicians. The guests do a short performance before joining the regular musicians for a session. This is a great session to bring visitors along to, admission is free all year and supper is provided. Come along and join the craic. Sessions usually begin arround 10pm.

Visited this session on Tuesday 25-07-06.

Wonderful family atmosphere, great music, and a lovely supper.

Guest on this occasion was Dundalk fiddler Brendan Larrisey whom I hadn’t seen for maybe twenty years. He has a super style of playing - pity there was so much talking during his solo playing.

Nevertheless, well worth a visit and a friendly welcome is guaranteed for all visitors and musicians.

Next week (01-08-06) the Murphy family from Camlough are guest musicians.

The map is hopelessly wrong. Forkhill is in South Armagh, some nine miles southwest of Newry.
