The Draycott Session

Looking for fiddle players…..New Session in the New Year

Born out of slight frustration of too many open mike and performance type folk clubs and not being able to attend sessions in the area midweek, I have decided to start a new session on a Sunday afternoon.

The venue is in Derbyshire. At “The Travellers Rest”in the village of Draycott, which is in-between Nottingham and Derby. It will be held on 14th January 2007 from 1pm till early evening.

Draycott is only 4 miles from Junction 25 of the M1/A52 so is easily accessible for fiddlers from Nottingham, Derby, Loughborough, Leicester and even Sheffield.

The session is open to other instruments but I would ideally like the fiddle to be the prominent feature of the session. Also a few songs during the proceedings wouldn’t go amiss.

I am not a melody player myself but love backing tunes (mainly Irish & Scottish)

If there are any fiddlers out there who would be interested in having a fun Sunday afternoon, please PM me.

At the moment this is a one of session but if successful it may be held every one or months.

Please looking the TUNE section too…

The First Draycott Session

A very big THANK YOU to everybody for coming along to the first Draycott Session. It was a great afternoon/evening. I must say I did get a little worried at first with 4 banjos in the room and apart from a sessioneer’s dog going missing for a short while all went well.

We had slightly in excess of 20 musicians 9 of which were fiddlers, it was especially heart-warming to see a couple of young fiddle players playing so well. Excellent!!!

I really enjoyed the flutes & whistles too some great Scottish slow airs & some blistering Irish stuff!

Thanks to Kevin and his staff and the locals for making us feel so welcome.

I think it might be good idea to do it all over again. Will keep it going on a monthly basis, at least until the festivals start.

Next one either 11th or 18th Feb will keep you all posted.

Thanks once again to all.

The Second Draycott Session

After the success of the 1st Draycott Session,

We have been invited back to do it all over again on the 11th February 2007.

Again I would love the “Fiddle” to be the prominent instrument of the session. We had nine at the first session, but unfortunately two players will not be make to make it to the February one. So again the call will is going out. “More Fiddle players required…..please!!”

Don’t forget folks this session comes with it’s very own tune… https://thesession.org/tunes/6547

We start around 1.00pm and play for through the afternoon/early evening.

Don’t hesitate to contact me if you require further details.

The 25th March is the day before my birthday so I will be in the partying mood. Also the first day of British Summer Time so catch up on the hour’s sleep you are loosing and come and join in a few tunes from Ireland, Scotland, The Shetlands, Brittany and more (plus a few songs)

As always I would love the “Fiddle” to be the prominent instrument of the session. We had nine at the first session, but unfortunately only five at the February one. So again the call will is going out. “More Fiddle players the merrier!!!”

Don’t forget folks this session comes with it’s very own tune… https://thesession.org/tunes/6547

We start around 1.00pm and play through the afternoon/early evening.

Don’t hesitate to contact me if you require further details.
