Corner House Session - Tuesday 9.30pm

This pub is next door to the Sin E which also has a session at the same time. Spoilt for choice we are in Cork and it’s a tough call some nights which session to choose. Recently (May 2008) I’ve seen really top notch musicians sit in on this session and it’s not for the faint hearted on those nights but the musicians are always welcoming. It is very occasionally an E flat session.

The First Friday session (you’ve guessed it, takes place on the first Friday of every month) is a gathering of some of the famous players from Cork such as Matt Cranitch (fiddle), Con Fada (box), Colm Murphy (bodhran), Pat Herring (guitar), Dave Hennessy (box), Brid Cranitch (fiddle), Mick Daly (guitar) and many more (not all of them every time). This session tends to have a Sliabh Luachra slant but it is an open session. Worth a look/listen.

The First Friday session start between 5pm - 6pm usually and plays on until after 9pm.

Also tunes on Wednesdays and First Fridays (see above).

Small, tight group

I visited on Tuesday night. Good music, small group, fairly brisk pace, not particularly welcoming.

Re: The Corner House

Well there’s no session here on a Tuesday. The barlady tells me there’s a session on Wednesdays and Thursdays, Thursdays from 6.30.

Re: The Corner House

According to the pub’s calendar, the only sessions are on Thursdays (weekly) and the first Friday of the month, all starting at 6pm.

Re: The Corner House

I Travelled to Ireland in July of this year. Stayed until august. I got to hit up this session one of my last nights there (august 2nd) and was welcomed in to the circle of musicians within minutes of walking in and one of the staff noticing my mandolin case. I sat out most of the tunes cause I didn’t know them, but was asked to lead a few sets and was honoured to be playing with so many great musicians. Highlight of the night was getting told "Well played lad" by one of the guys next to me. One of the guys at table kept buying pints, which for sure was new to me. I’ll have to buy the next round when I’m in the area. Thanks for a lovely session experience.
