Slow Irish Session beginning from 3-5pm Sundays at Jack of the Wood

This is a different session than the regular session that begins at 5:30 - it is a slow-medium Irish session - contact landwight@yahoo.com or just show up.

Afternoon session upgraded to medium/intermediate

Just wanted to say that this session is more accurately described as an intermediate session than a slow session.

Afternoon session now from 3:30-6ish pm

slight time adjustment to the afternoon intermediate session.

Still going?

Hi,
I am thinking of coming to Asheville (I’m from Nova Scotia) at the end of March, just wondered if the session is still going? If so are there two sessions on the same day? How late does the later session go? Is it an advanced session? Or intermediate as well?
Thanks, can’t wait to visit!

Yes, still going

Hi Wildfire - yes, both sessions still going on Sunday. The afternoon session starts at 3:30 and is an intermediate session, and goes til 6ish. The evening session is an advanced session, starts 6:30-7 and goes a couple of hours usually.

We also have an intermediate session on Tuesday night at the White Horse in Black Mountain, which is about 20 minutes east of Asheville, starts at 6:30 - see that listing here for more info.

Jack of the Wood

There are two weekly Sunday sessions at Jack of the Wood in downtown Asheville.
3:00-6:00 is an open intermediate session
6:00-9:00 is the advanced session

Re: Jack Of The Wood Pub

Hi,

I’m visiting from New Jersey and am wondering if the intermediate session still starts at 3:00 or 3:30.
Thanks.

Re: Jack Of The Wood Pub

Looks like only one session to me.

’Stop in for the pub’s long running Traditional Irish Celtic Jam each Sunday @ 3pm.

‘The jam is followed up by Chill Tones with Teso who will to take you into evening.’

Re: Jack Of The Wood Pub

There are still two sessions at Jack of the Wood on Sundays, neither of which are suitable for beginners.

3:00 - 6:00 is an open Intermediate/Advanced session. This session began over 10 years ago as a slow session, but it has gradually sped up to “reel speed.”

6:00 - 9:00 is the advanced session.

Jack of the Wood has been hosting traditional sessions for around two decades. Currently there are three Irish sessions as well as Old-time and Bluegrass sessions.

Re: Jack Of The Wood Pub

Are these session(s) still happening during the pandemic?

Re: Jack Of The Wood Pub

We’re down to only one session now, due to the pandemic. It is a closed session, on Sundays from 3:30 until 6:00.

Re: Jack Of The Wood Pub

Does this session have room for another fiddler of intermediate skills?

Re: Jack Of The Wood Pub

Just confirming if this venue is hosting only “Closed Sessions” on Sundays from 3:30-6:00pm? I’m a musician and I live in Wilson, NC. I’ll be visiting my son in Asheville and thought it would be nice to check it out and maybe be able to sit in on a tune or two. If it’s a closed session, no worries, still be great to stop in for a listen! Thanks!

Re: Jack Of The Wood Pub

If you are fully vaccinated, come on up and introduce yourself!
