Mc Neill’s

Good to see a session starting up on Capel Street. Is Mc Neill’s music shop opening up again?I heard a while back that it was maybe reopening in February.

I think what´s happened is that the former music shop has been converted into a pub. The shop was at Nº 140, and the pub has the same number.

McNeill’s Pub Capel St. Dublin 7 - Thursday night Session

The Music Shop is due to open this month alright. It will be upstairs from the pub but will have a separate entrance on the street.
There’s also music on Fri & Sat nights and Sun afternoons and the Rough Deal string band play Wed nights

Sounds like a grand time. I’ll have to try to make a few sessions when I’m student teaching in Dublin in November!

A lovely welcoming session with tunes played at less than 1,000 mph. Great to listen to and join in with.

is there a Tuesday session at McNeills?

Re: McNeill’s Pub

Just back from Dublin. The only place I went to for sessions was McNeill’s.. they have sessions 6 nights a week now- very welcoming. One session was a singing session, but they let the melody players plays sets every now and again and encouraged us to back them up if we were unfamiliar with the song. Both sessions that I went to started unassuming, but later on they really picked up with more players- and more advanced stuff (people who play in bands, etc) started coming out and it was fantastic to just listen- GREAT place.

Re: McNeill’s Pub

The pub’s website proclaims music nightly and six times a week.

McNeill’s Pub

The session is well established, features its core group which includes one of Dublin’s finest folk singers. The session usually has its core 7 players there and the space being quite confined can only comfortably take that number and comply with house rules to keep the passage-way free. There is a friendly vibe at the session and the audiences to date have been effusive in their praise.
Its now a year old, fully subscribed but will be an open session on the third Sunday of the month, space permitting.
