The session is led by Glenn Farr (fiddle) and Jeff Pearson (accordion). It usually gets started around 6:30 and runs until 9:30 or so.
Is this session still running. Am from Dublin, Ireland, but will be in the area April 5th and 12th with the guitar and vocal chords
I missed the Monday session but chpped in 5 or 6 songs on the Tuesday last night! The bar seem pretty open to it
Is this still going?
The web site says it’s football night, and the phone didn’t pick up. It’s been nearly 1 1/2 years since the last post, so anything could happen.
Despite calling earlier in the day, there was no seisiun when I got here. I spoke to the waitress who said that they haven’t been here for months. My advice: call first during the evening rather than depending on the day staff.
I’m meeting with owner-operator Mike Nagle for dinner tonight and will ask about renewing the session.
Make that Mark Nagle
Monday Session Defunct
One of the leaders of the Monday session had some health issues. It’s hasn’t been happening for months. However, the bar is open to having other sessions on an irregular basis.
Sunday session at the Chieftain
Publican Mark Nagle welcomes lovers of Irish traditional music to an open, intermediate speed session of Irish tunes and occasional songs, every Sunday from 6 - 9 PM. Anchored alternately by Conor Power, Maria McKay and Kristen Vandling. For more on The Chieftain check www.facebook.com/chieftainirishpubsf or www.thechieftain.com or call (415) 615-0916 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Sunday session is basically an "Internet Irish Pub Session Crawl", with an associated MeetUp website: http://www.meetup.com/irish-music-trad-session/
You can find more information there. In short, it’s an open, slow session with a tune list.
this session is alive and thriving every sunday from 6 - 9ish … it is midspeed for the most part, open and friendly … many of the tunes played come from a setlist available on the savage craic site … however, everyone gets a chance to start/select a tune or set … a little sprinkling of songs get sung as well, whatsmore the pub peeps are a nice attentive audience ♬
Just visited this session - still going strong, 6 - 9 PM Sundays.
A note about football season. Until February, the starting time for the session is about 8:30PM Sunday - or until the NFL game is over. Needless to say, that is not very convenient, and sometimes nobody shows up. Last night was fun, though small.
After football season, the starting time should return to 6:30PM Sundays.
Re: The Chieftain
our session has become a lively well attended session, most sundays…about four of us bellweather the tunes if needed…this is a friendly welcoming session for the most part…the usual pace is midspeed to fast…during football season we usually begin playing around 8 and go until 10:30 and later if we are so inclined…slainte ♩♪♫♬
Re: The Chieftain
The Chieftain session is still up and running, 6:30 to 9:30 or whenever on Sundays. During football season it starts later, about 8 pm. We’re listed on Meetup.com under "Irish trad" if you want to see the starting time and how many people are signed up.
