Wednesdays at 7:30

This is P.V. O’Donnell’s session that was at City Steam for years and briefly at Arch Street Tavern. It is otherwise unchanged. It runs weekly, on Wednesdays, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. (except Thanksgiving week, when it moves to Tuesday for a gala bash, with lots of dancing and guest musicians).

Thanksgiving Session on Wednesday

This week’s session (25 November 2009) will be on Wednesday as usual, rather than shifting to Tuesday, as in the past, on account of the Thanksgiving holiday. 7:30 to 10 p.m. at McKinnon’s.

Hartford Session

Is this still an active session? And is it an open session?

McKinnon’s Irish Session Review

Nice friendly open session with some good tune set choices. Like most American sessions, I seem to find most New England Irish pubs to be really a sports bar with an Irish Pub name complete with the fans watching the Tellie. Which is fine unless you are there for an Irish session. Unfortunately the American pub setting is not all conducive for an Irish style music session because sports bars are unbelievably noisy with crowd noise as opposed to the quieter family pub environment that work so well with sessions. Claudia who led this session is an excellent session host and guided the session nicely through the evening. There was even a tuba cranking out some jigs. Kewl!. Nice session. Unfortunately, the pub is just really noisy. But despite the noise the crowd was appreciative.

Wednesday night Hartford session

Just wanted to clarify this session is still active. My good friend and fiddle teacher PV O’Donnell started the session; after he sadly died in January 2011, I’ve taken it over and am often joined by special guests - regulars include Claudine Langille (mandolin), John Whelan (button accordion), and John Tabb (button accordion), and sometimes others when they are passing through (such as piper Michael Cooney and fiddler Dylan Foley during this past year). All are welcome - if anyone wants more info, feel free to email me at: Thanks!

Re: McKinnon’s Irish Pub

Just got an e mail from the session leader/organizer that the session has had to leave McKinnon’s, so it’s no longer happening there. She said she’ll be looking for a replacement venue.
