Quiet Man

I used to go to a fantastic session there in ’91/‘92… can’t remember what day of the week. Vincent was there then, too… lovely player. Who runs the bar now? Is Owen still there?

Fantastic sessions at the quiet man

Sessions at the Quiet Man in Paris are fantastic !
The pub is absolutely inspiring, music is suitable for beginners on saturday at about 7 pm (beginner session) and Owen, who runs the pub, is a very nice man !

The man who owns the Quiet Man

He is a quiet man, was a quiet little boy, always singing.

A “ true voice“ his mammy used to say.

Hello from down under, up in the Blue Mountains.

I’m very impressed, well done.

Quiet Man sessions update

A lot happening these days in the Quiet Man.

Regular Irish trad sessions every second and fourth Mondays of each month (with Vincent Blin. At 9:30 p.m.

Eoghan still leads his singing sessions on Tuesdays. Starts at 9:30 p.m.

Open sessions on the second and fourth Fridays of each month. At 10:00 p.m.

Irish music (cross between gigs and sessions) every Saturday night starting at 10:00 p.m.

Slow sessions (for beginners) on Saturdays, starting at 5:30 p.m.)

We’ll have regular visits from Irish musicians throughout the year.

The best thing to do if you’re traveling to Paris is to drop me an email to find out exactly what’s going on and when.

Almost forgot. On November 26th we’ll be celebrating our fifteenth anniversary with Seamus Creagh, Richard Lucey and Tony McCarthy. If you should happen to be in Paris that night!!!

Nice Sessions at The Quiet Man

Went on Monday May 30, 2005 to Vincent’s ‘no accompaniment’ session, and to another Irish session on Friday June 10, 2005, which also turned out to be accompaniment-free. Both wery friendly and enjoyable sessions, lots of nice tunes at good tempos. I felt very welcome, despite speaking almost no French.

One of the nice things about The Quiet Man, a very small pub to begin with, is that the sessions are downstairs, below street level, in a stone basement whose walls are probably a meter thick. Minimal bar or street noise gets downstairs.

The Quiet Man pub is located two blocks from the Pompidou Centre in Paris, which is usually open until 9 P.M. or later. If you are visiting like we were, view Modern art, and follow it with some tunes…

News from the Quiet Man

I’ve stopped managing the Quiet Man, and as a consequence of that I will be deleting the pub’s email account I was running. Since the Quiet Man’s website has also gone offline, inquiries regarding music in the Quiet Man should be made directly at the phone number indicated on the Details’ page.

Those traveling to Paris and wishing to find out about sessions happening there, can contact also me personally through the members’ section.

all happening as of october 07. a somewhat dark little neighbourhood i felt ok on the subway however

The new 2008-2009 schedule

Lovely session

I attended both the slow and the mad session on Saturday. A most welcoming group of players, and a lovely venue.

2010 Schedule

The 2010 schedule is roughly the same. I just add Thursday nights with French (Auvergne, Berry) or Breton traditional music sessions. (Big and crowdy !).

All the best,

Thursday/Saturday only?

Just stopped in on a Monday night, May 2010–they said the sessions only happen Thursdays and Saturdays. Too bad! Hopefully I’ll catch one later this week.

Quiet Man and other Paris sessions?

Hello, I’ll be in Paris either last week of July/first week of August 2010 and would like to go to a session/s. Any further news on this one or any of the others?

I would not be surprised if there were no sessions as its pretty dead in Paris in the summer hols

Ah yes of course; I forgot about the general Parisian summer exodus! Oh well… thanks Bazouki Dave.

please note that the Quiet Man will be closed from August the 6th to the 22th.

All the best,

Re: The Quiet Man

For Wednesday’s are there 2 Irish sessions or just one? Not sure what Training and mid means?

Re: The Quiet Man

Melany, sorry you didn’t get a response. Based on the chatter elsewhere, “Training” is like slow session where people are still learning tunes, while “Mid” would be for intermediate players who know most of the tunes and will “do no harm” (by knowing whether to play or to not play a particular bit). It all sounds grand to me 🙂

Re: The Quiet Man

Emmanuel is a wonderful teacher! When he says “workshop,” this is actually an ongoing class for which his students pay tuition. Many thanks for letting the silly visiting sessioners listen in! Will buy more beer from the pub and return for Wed and Sat, which actually *are* sessions… regrets for the confusion, your harmonies were gorgeous and your rhythms/chords were awesome!

Re: The Quiet Man

I attended the Saturday, May 21st session while visiting Paris recently. It was a wonderful evening and everyone was very welcoming!

Re: The Quiet Man

I popped in here on a Saturday night to listen to the session down in the basement. The session goes all evening but it really kicks into gear around 9:30-10pm. Really nice playing!

Re: The Quiet Man

My gal and I joined the Saturday session last night. Wonderful and welcoming. The times seemed to be the same as Emmanuel posted 4 years ago. We were there from 7.30 to 11pm. Go go go!

The quiet man Paris Wednesday session

Does anyone know what time this session starts and ends on Wednesday?
Also can anyone join? I’m thinking of coming this week and play fiddle.

Re: The quiet man Paris Wednesday session

My wife and I were in Paris early November 2019 and attended a session at the Quiet Man. As I recall, it started around 7:30 and was still going when we left at about 10:30. It’s downstairs in a bar and small, but with lots of character. The players were very friendly, and played a lot of tunes we knew (we’re from the Ann Arbor, MI area). We knew a lot of the tunes they played. There were many mandolins there, including mine.

We checked with before we went, to make sure they were having a session. We got a reply - you might want to send an email to confirm your intended dates/times. Hope you have a good time.

Re: The Quiet Man

Thanks very much

Re: The Quiet Man

It is alas, over. I shall keep found memories of the Quiet Man. I hope some English speaking musician will pay a better tribute than mine at this fantastic pub and its successive owners and bartenders , Martin, the late Yves, Dave, Eoghan, Franck, the late Bruno, Patrick and so many others.
