El Cafetón

Calle Muralla, 5, Avilés, Asturies, Spain

Every Friday at 22:30. Going strong after more than 3 years. Extra sessions sometimes during music festivals (in the summer). Open for everyone who knows what he/she is doing with his/her instrument and asks nicely. We are happy to play with anyone and have had a handful of well known trad musicians show up when they are in town for festivals.

Music played is mostly Irish/Scottish, with a good Asturian component, but anything that sounds remotely nice is accepted.

Re: El Cafetón

Is the session still on?

Cheers! 🙂

Re: El Cafetón

I think the answer’s probably ‘No’. The Facebook page is reasonably active and does not mention a session.

Happy days! Last time I was home I couldn’t find a session and after 3 weeks I was having withdrawal symptoms 🙂

Re: El Cafetón

Does this session still run? I will be in the area with my fiddle 5th - 10th September 2022 and would be interested joining in.

Re: El Cafetón

Hello! I’m trying to get ahold of DaveF and thought I might find him here. This is Caitlin Warbelow (from the band Warbelow Range). Recently, I was looking at thesession.org to find a good version of Maids of Selma to print out for a student, and I came across a version which was surprisingly close to my own…and so I looked at who posted it, and it was you, and you mentioned that you’d heard it on my record…small world! And then when I went to look at your profile, I saw that you’re living in Asturias. My partner and I visited Asturias about one year ago and absolutely loved it. We went to the El Cafeton session, but we just listened…we didn’t have our instruments on the trip. I wonder if you were there! The session was recommended to us by Cesar Pastor, whom we met through our pandemic-era trad music platform, Tune Supply.
Anyway - I just wanted to say hello and make the connection. Send me an email if you get a chance (caitlin.warbelow@gmail.com). I’d love to keep in touch, because we hope to return to Asturias someday soon.
Thanks! -caitlin
