Champaign sessions

This is to report that I was unable to find either of the two sessions listed on this website in Champaign-Urbana. One of the bars told me they thought there were tunes at the Pig, but I could not get any further info. Perhaps you could check with the posters concerning the two sessions (Mike and Molly’s and the other) and have them update info on where to go for session near University of Illinois. Thanks.

No joy

I tried to contact Lisa, who I remember as the person sort of running these sessions in years gone by. No reply—the email doesn’t appear to be a current one. Too bad, because they had a lively group. Planning a trip back there in the spring, and will need some tunes.

Re: Blind Pig

The Champaign session at the Blind Pig is alive again. We’ll be meeting Wednesday nights from 8 pm until 10:30 pm.

Re: Blind Pig

Yes, very much alive and well, every Wednesday. Often with dancers. Generally with button accordion, concertina, flute, pennywhistle, fiddle, tenor banjo, bodhran, mandolin, often guitar, bones.

Re: Blind Pig

The session at the Blind Pig has been suspended by its participants for the remainder of March and the month of April, due to concerns about coronavirus. We will resume, with great eagerness and as soon as possible, when the situation improves.

Re: Blind Pig

The Champaign-Urbana area group has been meeting at intervals in distanced backyard sessions through the summer and will continue, weather permitting, into the fall. Musicians in the area interested in playing Irish music with others, especially U of I students, are encouraged and welcome to contact me through this site to discuss upcoming sessions and safe ways to join in.
