Catch 22

8:15-10:15; weekly; beginner/intermediate

For those of you who were familiar with the beginner session on Monday night at the sadly now closed J. Patrick’s, this is the session that has replaced it. Led by Donna Long (fiddle) or me (flute) if she is unable to do it on a given week, this is technically a beginner’s session, but the tune selection and speed typically skews more towards intermediate with a sprinkling of advanced tossed in. Really just depends on who shows up on a given week, but the usual crowd are mostly in the intermediate range. Donna is certainly accommodating though, so don’t be afraid to show up if you only have a few tunes. Please just remember that the usual session etiquette "rules" apply. Oh, and at this point and for the foreseeable future Donna asks for a $5 contribution from each musician (toss it into a hat we leave sitting out during the session) since she currently does not receive any compensation from the bar for leading the session. This took a little getting used to at first, but there hasn’t been any complaints amongst the regulars, so we’re sticking with that system for now.

About Catch 22, it’s a friendly corner neighborhood bar in east Baltimore owned by a wonderful husband-wife duo. Food is home-cooked and tasty, and drinks are reasonably priced. A bunch of the musicians will often meet up for dinner beforehand. Parking is on the street and typically is not that hard to find. If you can’t find a spot on Eastern Ave right in front of the place, just drive around the block and you can usually find a spot somewhere in there.

OK, think that covers everything for now. Drop me a line if you have any questions. Otherwise, hopefully you’ll make it down at some point!

Re: Catch 22

This session is on hiatus as Catch 22 is in the process of being sold. It’s possible the session may remain here once the new owners get settled in, but everything’s up in the air at the moment. I’ll post updates as I learn more.

Jason, what news?

Re: Catch 22

I hope they keep the name.

I want to walk in the door and say "Give them eat. Give EVERYONE eat."
