The Canon
Weekly session, not for beginners, concentrating on Scottish tunes, about a third of which are pipe tunes.
A few airs, lots of marches, strathspeys, reels, jigs and waltzes. No songs.
Visitors very welcome. Starts around 8:30 and ends 11:30 or occasionally after midnight.
Re: The Canon
Still going strong. Only difference is that there is one song each week as Dawn, the publican, likes a bit of “cheese”.
Currently up to three or four fiddles, mandolin, two whistles, flute, border pipes, small pipes, guitar and bodhran, with more occasional Northumbrian pipes.
Re: The Canon
After a 17-month hiatus the Canon session started up again on the 9th of August 2021.
Re: The Canon
Going nicely. It’s been great to have a few new regulars as well as a few visiting players over the late summer/autumn.
Re: The Canon
The Canon will be closed for the next two Mondays (2nd and 9th of May 2022) for refurbishment.
If all goes as planned, we’ll start up again on the 16th of May.
Re: The Canon
No session this coming Monday (11th of July) as Dawn needs a day to recover from the Jed Festival.
Re: The Canon
No session this coming Monday as it’s the Queen’s Ride of the Jed Festival and the pipe band come into the pub around half nine and play for about 15 minutes. Last year there were at least a dozen pipers along with drummers playing in the maybe 30‘ by 20’ pub!
Also, no session the following Monday for Festival recovery.
Back to normal on 17th July.
