The Duke of Wellington- Steady/Beginners/Improvers session

A new monthly mixed (Irish/English/Scottish and a bit of Old Time) “session” on the 2nd Thursday of each month. The first one is on 9th October 2014.

This is aimed at reasonably competent but new-to-trad musicians or people who’ve learnt a few tunes at classes or at home and want to start playing in a more social setting, but might be a bit intimidated at going to a full-on session. We’ll (at least initially) be using a tune-book both to help those who struggle to learn by ear, and to help the group build a shared repertoire.

All abilities tolerated, though you need to know your way around your instrument! More experienced players who would be up for playing in a relaxed environment and having a laugh also very welcome.

Duke of Wellington

A historical London Irish music pub, if ever there was one !
Memories of Gerry O’Connor’s “Sugawn Kitchen” over 40 years ago.
I wish this new venture every success and thank the organisers for putting the Duke of Wellington back on the map.

The session has been running steadily for 3 months now and getting a good attendance. After a bit of shifting around we now have a regular slot on the second Thursday of each month- next session is this thursday 8th Jan.

Re: The Duke Of Wellington

In case anyone has randomly finds our session via this site in the next few days, we have been moved to Friday this month due to football. So the session is on Friday 11/03/2016. Usually still on the second Thursday.
