The Slippery Pig Brewery

It’s the best of both worlds: A family-friendly venue, with connoisseur-quality beers on tap. That’s because it is the tasting room for the Slippery Pig Brewery, rather than a tavern or bar. We (regulars from the late Global Bean session) plan to meet there every Wednesday, 7 to 9 p.m. Mostly tunes, some very strong players, but beginners are welcome.

The Slippery Pig is on the far end of Front Street in downtown Poulsbo, with its front door facing the nearby aquarium and marina (some online maps incorrectly place it in the middle of the block).

Off to a great start

We had our inaugural Slippery Pig Irish Session last night, and it went very well indeed!

Nice place, nice owners… still waiting on some beer reviews from our testers. (Although if consumption is any indication, they found it quite acceptable.)

So far, so good

Our fifth weekly session went well—a couple of players were missed, but five of us had some good tunes.

We forgot to include a couple of songs, though, we’ll have to remember that next time….

Another good one

Eight players (fiddle, gtr, flute, whistle, concertina, drum), two-and-half hours of musical mayhem. Seattle-area communities Port Townsend, Olympia, Gig Harbor, Bainbridge Island, Vashon Island, and Port Gamble were well represented, and should be proud. :-)

btw, this new session is mostly members of the late Global Bean session (as seen on YouTube).

Heartfelt gratitude

I just wanted to give a great big big ol’ Thank-You to Will, Ken, Ann, Mike, Cameron, Alex—and special guest Tom—for bringing in so many great tunes, and playing them so well, last night! (Didn’t want to embarrass anybody at the session. But maybe they will see it here….)

This still happenning?

Hi Rick,

I’m itching for tune playing. Is this still a going concern?

Mark

Still a going concern

You betcha, every Wednesday. Feel free to bring along other players too, even if they are shy….

No session December 30

The place will be closed for a staff meeting, so no sesh that night.

Re: The Slippery Pig Brewery

No session on May 4, we are (atypically) preempted by a special event. Back on schedule the following week.

a couple of clarifications

Word has reached me that the intro to this session listing might seem intimidating to some. I do regret using the term "very strong players" because it really isn’t accurate, at least not by any serious standard. I just meant that we have regulars who do know a couple hundred tunes, and on rare occasions a truly "strong" player will drop in.

Please, please—if you are out there, in or near Kitsap County, Washington, reading this, interested in Irish tunes—drop by some Wednesday. We don’t bite.

Re: The Slippery Pig Brewery

No sesh this week (Jan 4); closing early for staff party.

Re: The Slippery Pig Brewery

Now just first and third Wednesdays of the month, as of February 2017, instead of weekly. (Stay tuned for possible further developments, session-wise….)

Re: The Slippery Pig Brewery

Ah well. Nice hosts, we enjoyed our tenure there, but we (the three remaining regulars) have decided to "go private" and convert to a house session.
