Piper Down session Monday evenings…

7:00 PM each Monday.

The Piper is Salt Lakes newest - and best Irish pub. This session is moderate to advanced and can see anywhere from three to fifteen musicians in a given week. We love to meet new folks so if you’re in the area please stop by. Be sure to tell the owner Dave Hi!

Session Details

7:00 PM every Monday evening at the Piper Down.

Come for the Guinness - stay for the craic!

This is Salt Lake City’s newest session, and the only weekly session in the valley. Tunes are generally played at an intermediate to advanced level, though beginners are highly encouraged to attend. See you at the “Down”!

We’ve MOVED!

The regular Monday night session in Salt Lake has moved to THE REPUBLICAN. Same time, just a new venue. The owners are very pleased to feature live Irish session music and have been most accomodating. We’ll see everyone at the Republican for some cold pints and smoking tunes!

This session has been changed to once a month. The Republican session is now being held on the fourth Monday of the month, 7:30 PM.

Or last Monday, as in this month, Jan 31st.

Changed again

Another little change to this session. We are at the Republican every second and fourth Monday from 7:00 PM-9:15 PM. We have to clear out at 9:15 because the pub holds trivia night every Monday evening.

The Republican session - time change

The session has been moved to the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, starting at 7:00pm. No other events are scheduled in the place on those nights, so we can stay and play as long as we like.

Is this session still active?

Re: The Republican

The session is still very active and well attended. 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, around 7:00 p.m.

Re: The Republican

Quick question. As this session is held in a pub, are minors allowed to be in the pub to participate in the session?

Re: The Republican

Belated response to the question above - The Republican is licensed as a bar, so unfortunately it’s over 21 only. Session still held every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month, at 7:00pm.

Re: The Republican

This sessions was a blast! Really friendly folks who are happy to see an outsider. Honestly it felt just like my friends back home. And no, the pipes aren’t annoying. They add a lot

Re: The Republican

Per email circular from Mark Stevenson:

October Sessions at The Republican - Tues., Oct. 8th and Tues., Oct. 22nd.
Just a reminder about the August sessions at The Republican, held the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month, 7:00 p.m., 917 State St, Salt Lake City. (must be 21 yrs. old to enter).

The session is typically anchored by Ross and Mary, two of the nicest people you’ll ever meet and who have a vast repertoire or tunes between them. It’s a very welcoming session, so drop in anytime!

Wish I was still nearby to drop in for some tunes! Cheers.

Re: The Republican

will catch this session 2020 Thanksgiving, missed you all. But a note to Andrea (spelling) who knows to do Boys of Blue Hill, Off to California, Morrison’s, O’Carolan’s Draught…she also hopefully will connect with Tunepal…sorry I didn’t give here my card.

Re: The Republican

Will you be having a session on February 24th? I’m planning on visiting from Seattle then. Would it be Ok to put in a song or two? I don’t play an instrument but I know a few songs.

Re: The Republican

Sadly, The Republican is no more, having closed sometime in 2020. Thanks and gratitude to Jason for being such a generous host to our session for 15 years! Hopefully at some point in the coming months a new, public session venue in the SLC area will emerge (pandemic willing), but until then most regulars are attending (outdoor) house sessions, weather permitting.
