Newport Irish Centre
First Friday of every month, always attracts a good crowd with some fine players. Newport can be a little, erm, lively; count the ambulances passing by the window during the evening ….. 🙂
Not sure why this is listed as being in Pembrokeshire.
See you later at the session if you’re going!
Now moved from Pembrokeshire to Gwynedd. And I thought is was in Gwent …
First Friday sessions in Newport
Just to confirn that this is still live but occasionally is postponed or cancelled so please check website (http://amairgin.net) or phone/email before setting out.
Next one (March) is postponed to Fri 11th because of the Comhaltas Tour concert on the 4th (see website for details).
I managed to ge to this session a couple of weeks ago and was made welcome by all there. Some great tunes from players on boxes, fiddles, and a flute accompanied by a guitar and (one) bodhrán. Keep it up and many thanks to Willy for being so helpful.
Re: Defunct - Moved To The St. Julian’s Pub
The Picton session is now history - the pub has become an unofficial centre for Newport’s Romanian community - very friendly & exuberant, with lots of live Romanian music …. So the Irish is now to be found at the St. Julian’s pub on the Caerleon Rd., halfway between Newport & Caerleon - great room, with lovely view over the river Usk.
