Twice-monthly library sessions

This is a symbiotic dance/music session that evolved from a series of free community set/ceili dance classes. On a typical day we’ll have anywhere from 10 to 50 dancers and 2 to 6 musicians. It’s a very welcoming, family-friendly crowd and anyone who can carry at least one tune and enjoys the combination of music and dancing is invited to join us. (Please, no sheet music!)

The session is twice a month (the second and fourth Mondays), excepting state and federal holidays when the library is closed. Technically it runs from 6:30-8pm, but we often stay until the library closes at 9. Default location is upstairs on the 4th floor, but on nice summer days you’ll sometimes find us on the lawn outside -- just listen for the music.

Re: Loussac Public Library

Just a wee question … why not Sheet Music? … LOL …
God Bless

Re: Loussac Public Library

You’d think it would be understood, right? 😉

Re: Loussac Public Library

Makes sense, I suppose that to be a Musician in a Session you have to know the Music by Heart, Right?, you’re not gonna go there with a Music Stand to put your Sheet Music etc etc.
🙂

Re: Loussac Public Library

The library building will be closed for construction through most of June 2017, so the schedule is as follows:

- If the weather is nice on Monday, June 12, we will hold our session at the usual time on the lawn outside the library (near where the old main entrance used to be). We have no indoor fallback location so if it rains, we’re done for the day.

- The June 26th session is cancelled entirely.

We will be back to our usual efforts in July: look for us outside on the lawn if the weather is good, indoors if the weather is bad.

Re: Loussac Public Library

June 12th session now has the option of going indoor after all. If the weather is nice, we may still play/dance outside.

June 26th session still cancelled.

In July we will be back to our usual 2nd Monday/4th Monday schedule.

Re: Loussac Public Library

Just had a chance to play with these very nice folks, on the 12th of June. Good players and a nice crowd of dancers. Welcoming and fun. Thanks Lisa and everyone!

Re: Loussac Public Library

Thanks for coming down Cakeeaters! We all enjoyed your playing and would love to see you back soon!

Re: Loussac Public Library

The library will be closed for remodeling (again) during our usual July 10 session. So for that day only, we will be meeting in Town Square Park, right next to the Performing Arts Center, from 6:30-9pm. For non-locals, that’s downtown between 5th & 6th avenues and E and F streets. Look/listen for us on the cement apron.

Starting on July 24th, we will be back at the library as usual.

(Sorry for the multiple postings -- the contractors keep changing the closure dates for the library!)

Re: Loussac Public Library

Construction at the library has finally finished, so this music/dance session is being moved down to the beautiful new atrium, right inside the entrance. It’s impossible to miss us now!

Re: Loussac Public Library

Unfortunately the February 12, February 26 and March 12 iterations of this session are cancelled because too many of us will be out of town. We’ll be back in action on March 26! (This is for 2018.)

Re: Loussac Public Library

This humble little dance/music session is still going strong, but it’ll be taking place outdoors from May 27 - end August. We’ll be back at the library starting in September.

Re: Loussac Public Library

(Hopefully “outdoors” will be in the Cuddy Park just next to the library, weather permitting, of course. But best to contact me for confirmation since if left to our own devices, we tend to move around a bit!)

Re: Loussac Public Library

Needless to say, this session is indefinitely on hold due to COVID. We’re very much looking forward to when we can safely convene for dancing again!
