Shamrock Inn Hotel

Went to this session last night. Had a "trad session" sign up outside the hotel pub, so I thought I’d check it out. Started between 9:30 PM and 10:00 PM with fiddler, box player and keyboard player. Around 10:30 I asked with some trepidation if I could join them for a few tunes, to which they consented. Three more players came in during the course of the night, playing flute, whistle and bodhrán. Very friendly and welcoming. Skill level is certainly advanced, but they were very accommodating of my beginner skills and limited repertoire.

P.S., I would appreciate if someone could add the other days of the week this session takes place - I was unable to figure that out. Also, if this isn’t a proper session with a schedule, let me know so I can remove it.

Re: Shamrock Inn Hotel

Ran into someone last night who told me the fiddler there 2 nights ago was James Cullinan, the Doolin fiddler who recorded with P. J. Crotty; not sure how reliable that information is…

Re: Shamrock Inn Hotel

I had a look at this session on Tuesday too, but thought it was more of a recital than a session. It was James Cullinan playing as far as I could tell.
I ended up going to Ennistimon and joining a session there.

Re: Shamrock Inn Hotel

@Scotchy, it definitely became more of a session as the night went on, just so you know. There were about 7 of us playing by the time I left.

Re: Shamrock Inn Hotel

Sorry I didn’t stay longer so.
There seems to be sessions in Lahinch every night with bars taking it in turns to host them.

Re: Shamrock Inn Hotel

I had trouble finding sessions on the weekend, and the two sessions I went to during my trip there had completely different people. But I suppose I didn’t look hard enough on the weekend…
