Dwyer’s Irish Pub: Saturday noons, but not *every* one… call.

In early May we were in Portsmouth, looking for a session, and had heard that there was one Sundays in Dwyer’s Pub. So we went there on Sunday and were told, possibly by Meaghan, “Sorry, they switched it to Saturdays! They were here yesterday!” Alas, that was our only weekend day to spend. However…

Received June 2023 in an email from the shanty singers who get third Saturdays: “SING IN PORTSMOUTH! We’ll be at Dwyer’s Pub on Bridge St., Saturday the 17th, noon to 3 pm. We’ll be outdoors, weather permitting. Check out Dwyer’s excellent brunch menu, craft beer selection, and cocktails while we make a joyful, salty noise on the 3rd Saturday of every month. Don’t forget to tip the friendly folks who keep us going, and drop by on other Saturdays for a lovely Irish session.”

So the evidence suggests that there is a session, that’s it’s noon to three on non-3rd Saturdays, and that Dwyer’s is making no promises (the web page they had describing their session is GONE… but that could just be their web designer’s idea). So, it’s possible, but call first.

Re: Dwyer’s Irish Pub

Dwyer’s is a small neighborhood pub. It’s the real deal.
Each 3rd Saturday is a great shanty sing - noon to 3.
All other Saturdays is a trad session from noon to 3 but occasionally closed for a private event. Call first.
Note: because of space restrictions, this is a semi-invited session with the 6-ish usuals. But singers and others from the “audience” are welcomed into the circle for a song or a few tunes.
Very friendly and plenty of craic.
