This is called a Slow and Steady Band session though its more like a workshop. It happens the first Saturday of the month from 2pm to 5pm and is aimed at relative novices who want to learn new tunes from a variety of places and start playing in company. I’ve been going 2 years and its great for helping build confidence in a less intimidating setting than a standard pub session. Theres also a concertina only workshop/session the 2nd Saturday of each month.

Heres a link if it works

Slow and Steady Band Session

Contact details have changed but venue is the same and there’s a new website

This slow and steady session for beginners and improvers and helpers is still going strong.

Concertina Session

Sadly, the Concertina-only session is no longer running, but the Slow and Steady Band Session is going from strength to strength, with friendly and helpful organisers.

Slow and Steady Session

Thanks for the kind comments Womble_Lancs (perhaps you could identify yourself at the session sometime!).

As indicated, any folk instruments welcome, beginners or improvers. We mainly play in G or D, although sometimes….! We have a network of musicians on most common instruments who would help absolute beginners if they needed it.

We have recently produced a tunebook which we use at the session, and are working on a few more. Downloadable for free from the website.

Cheers Brian
