Not sure about the key

This is a lovely hornpipe that can be played slowly with some swing. It is on Bohola’s #4, tune #3. I play it on the fiddle. Not sure if I got the key right, though, I am not very good at that.

Looks like A dorian

Larry Redican

Liz Carroll said at at New York concert in the 1980s that this was one of Larry Redican’s compositions.

I have added Chords…

I like this tune quite a bit, works well on uke. I added chords for those that want them, here’s the ABC:

Queen Of The Fairies

Larry Redican can be heard playing this at the comhaltasarchives.org, very stately pace. I think he has 9 bars in the first part??? I’m terrible with notation so have a listen. His playing sounds “set dance” to me so perhaps that’s making me think the first part is >8 bars. I didn’t know he composed this one. It’s a beautiful melody.

The other important thing is that he plays the first few bars of the 2nd part in the 2nd/3rd octave, up to e‘’’. This is surprisingly easy on the fiddle, as these shifts up the neck go.

Queen Of The Fairies

X:3 from a recording of Larry Redican, its putative composer. This, I repeat, is, from the sounds of things, a set dance in 4/4, not a hornpipe per se.
