Another forgotten gem from O’Neill’s…

I found this beauty in O’Neill’s 1,001 Gems (#601 in the "reels" section). As a good friend of mine commented, "a little quirky, but solid". I found that it needed a slight amount of "tweaking" , but I decided to post it as it appears in the book, so as not to offend. Here’s my take on it; feel free to let me know if it makes more sense/ sounds better (or worse) my way:

It seemed begging to be played as a double reel, rather than the single version in the book. As usual, enjoy!

Thanks, lovely little reel and easy to pick up, just falls under the fingers on flute. I like it just the way it is in the book coming back on itself.

Re: Johnny’s Welcome Home

This tune is in A major (rather than the posted A dorian) in O’Neill’s Music of Ireland. I think it does make more sense in that key, especially the second part.

Re: Johnny’s Welcome Home, Johnny from Gandsey?

This tune is very closely related to Johnny from Gandsey, AKA Lead The Knave
