Nine comments

Falite newbie ~ welcome to the nut house ~ however 😏

Some are dry roasted, others are dripping in fat, some aren’t nuts at all…

It makes the greater sense to read the FAQs and test the waters, check this place out and its conventions, including learning ABC notation in the modern sense as it is used here, and current, as a computer language, and then, maybe after being here a couple of months at least ~ then submit a tune to the database. And, if at all unsure about your transcription or your understanding of the thing in any way ~ you could always start with the ‘Discusssions’ and ask for help there.

As it stands, the old conventions of /2 now only needing / is minor, this ABC transcription looks pretty dire… Worse, you haven’t extended the courtesy, appreciated and expected, of commenting on it, another dump and run. Is it an attempt to transcribe how you play it? ~ on what instrument? ~ and whatever your source for this odd transcription, WHERE from? Is it a recent favourite of yours? Do they play it at one of your local sessions? Is it actually “by Wolfstone”? AND ~ ALWAYS the minimum of respect ~ WHO is the composer? But I’d also like to know WHAT? Is this seriously supposed to be a ‘reel’? ~ from what tradition?

It’s a fair guess the ‘Glenglass’ is in reference to the geography of Scotland.

“Glenglass” ~ Wolfstone

A listen or two ~ lacking anything ‘rock’ about it, more elevator music, light stuff, like canapes that make you hope the meal that follows it going to have more substance than the minimalist canapes…

Not commenting on a submission leaves the doors open to the wildlife that lives in the woods around here. I’d have not commented at all if you had ~ or if someone hadn’t knocked on our window to bring us out to see the roadkill, or as they put it ~ not me ~ “self-penned excursions into ego”… I suspect they thought this was your own composition…

Hey, it’s sweet enough, in a kind of mind numbing sort of way, but it isn’t alone in falling under that nameless category of amorphous melodies, pitch amoebas… 😀 It might make people buy more creme fraiche in the local supermarket, or fizzy pop…

Here’s one simple way to make your ABCs a bit saner ~ though, note for note not a bad effort really, though daft on other counts. First your way, just four of your bars worth ~

F<A| \
BB/2A/2 B/2A/2c2F F/2E/2F/2A/2| \
BB/2A/2 B/2e/2c2f f/2e/2e/2f/2| \

And then, keeping with it as you’ve given it but now with two of your bars per line and reducing /2 to just / ~

F<A | B B/A/ B/A/ c2 F F/E/ F/A/ | B B/A/ B/e/ c2 f f/e/ e/f/ |

just ‘2’ of your bars worth ~ 😏
If you do it that way they you would continue in the same way, meaning that using your long bars you’d have lines of 2 bars each. Jeremy prefers the lead-in notes to be included in the first line of each part, as shown just now, and showing the end of each of your 4 parts with some kind of marker, like || ~ and, as a final option ~ |]

Apologies

Fair do’s. I was keen to get this up as fast as I could.

This is most certainly NOT a reel. I didn’t know how to classify it, and still don’t. :| This is an accurate transcription, as far as I’m concerned. It’s been just fine for playing along to the music. I used my Tony Dixon D whistle for the job. You were right to hound me about this - the composer is Stuart Eaglesham, a long term member of Wolfstone. (And Glenglass is near Inverness)
As for ABC, I think I’ll spend some time looking at that.

Thanks for your criticism

Special tune for my fiddle :D

Hell, this was almost two years ago! My ABCs are ever so slightly improved since then… I think for ‘transcribing’ this one, I popped a midi of the tune into an ABC converter - fantastically innovative. The setting I posted was too fast as well - semis for quavers, quavers for crotchets etc. I haven’t looked at C’s transcription yet, I think I was too traumatised. Still am!
