The Glorious 13th
From the Mawkin Album The Fair Essex. Not the same tune as that of the same name by Blowzabella.
For me its another foot stomper… :) Great tune. Now if I could only play it at foot stomping speed!
The Glorious 13th - Schottish A Virmoux
Hmm. Now I know why this tune sounded familiar on the album…Ive heard it played in a different form at sessions!!!
It seems that the Mawkin track is just a rework of Schottish A Virmoux in a different key with the A & B parts swapped over.
So its French in origin. The arrangement I have heard is in G with an almost exact A part (but played as the B in the trad arrangement). The Mawkin B part (Trad A part) differs - I guess this is either artistic licence or perhaps mis-heard/remembered from sessions?

This traditional tune is a staple of the ”Musique du Centre” repertoire; a traditional from the Berry / Bourbonnais region. (It has been recorded for example by La Chavannée on their 1992 CD ‘Cotillon’. This band’s style and stance are widely held as a reference in the genre)
Hear it played in a set on the French hurdy-gurdy:
