Peadar O’Riada to the rescue!

This is the opening track of Peadar O’Riada’s lataest CD "Triur Sa Draighean" , a project made up exclusively of compositions of the man himself. He is joined on the recording by fiddlers Martin Hayes & Caoimhin O’Raghallaigh, and the results are astonishing. It seems as if everything I hear Mr. O’Raghallaigh involved in has an element of magic to it; there simply aren’t words to describe the depth of his playing. And if you’re not a fan of what Martin Hayes does on his own recordings, fear not; he has "turned down" the "Martin Hayes-ness" & plays with the other musicians with great taste & incredible empathy. If you are a fan of Mr. Hayes, you’ll most likely enjoy it anyway! And yes, the first thing I heard when playing this track was the first notes appearing in "Good Morning To Your Nightcap"; however, the rest of the tune distinguishes itself as an entirely different ball of wax after that. The most amazing thing that Peadar does as a composer is that he can "borrow" from existing tunes to craft brand new ones (that somehow sound "old"- neat trick!). I will be posting more of these amazing compositions as time allows…for now, enjoy!

Jearoid

Indeed, it’s a fine recording and some light, intimate magic pervades all the tunes and settings. In fact, the musical scores for all Peadar’s compositions on this album are available from his website.

As it is my very first ABC, I am counting on Smashthewindow (or someone else) to fix mistakes !
