Brendan Tonra’s other jig…

This composition of Brendan Tonra was taught by Catherine McEvoy to a flute class in Ballyvourney at Hammy’s "Flute Gathering" earlier this year. Catherine, of course, had a lot of variations when she performed this at the tutor’s concert, but this is what I consider to be the basic version.
This may well show up as being on a lot of recordings, but it is much more likely that the tune on those recordings will be the better known jig, his best-known composition, inexplicably posted here as "Tony Rowe’s".

This is a very close cousin to the "other" Bendan Tonra’s (Tony Rowe’s), maybe even a variation of it, albeit with some fairly wide departures from the other tune. Even so, it is instantly recognizable if you are familiar with the other one.

The Lad From Mt. Kisco, X:2

This is the setting presented in "A Musical Voyage", the collection of Brendan’s tunes that was published some time in the late ’90s by Brendan with the help of Helen Kisiel, Kevin O’Brien, and others. The note attached states: "For my grandson, Stephen".

The Lad From Mt. Kisco, X:3

This is how I play the tune. I suppose there’s a fair amount of misremembering here compared to the composer’s notes but I do think this is sweeter.

Re: The Lad From Mt. Kisco

I didn’t know of the tune, but I’m glad to learn of it since I AM a lad from Mt.Kisco! Mt Kisco NY is the same town which served as the inspiration for the great reel Maids Of Mt.Kisco.
