Even though I have yet to meet anybody who knows this tune, it has long been a particular favorite of mine. Maybe posting this will better my odds! It comes from the endlessly talented pen of Maestro Charlie Lennon; it is one of the many great tunes included in his “Musical Memories” Tunebook/CD. He wrote this (and the tune that follows it, “Baily View”) for master fiddler Sean Maguire. I don’t know if Mr. Maguire ever played the tunes, but they certainly would have sounded right at home in his hands. A bit challenging for fiddlers not used to the “Terra Incognita” of 3rd position, to be sure, but very worth it, I think…
I LOVE this hornpipe and I first started playing it about 15 years ago. I play it in concerts alot and seem to find something new to add to it every time I play it. It’s a great fiddle tune and I’m currently teaching it to one of my 12-15 fiddlers for the Fleadh.
