Six comments

Listen to track, there’s a lot of great trade-off between Ó Riada, Hayes, and Ó Raghallaigh. Very interesting and effective ways, IMHO, of accompanying the melody.

The structure of the tune is also peculiar and wonderful. :)

Feabhra means February

Is it based on the set Feabhra that Lúnasa play???

Hey Conor,

I don’t know, but I doubt it— it was composed by Peadar Ó Riada.

Feabhra

On Peadar O’Riada’s CD ‘Triur Sa Draighean’, ‘Feabhra’ is played in C, which the notation above indicates. At the concert at The National Concert Hall, Dublin on 24/11/2010, which was broadcast on 16/03/2011 on RTE Lyric FM, Martin and Dennis played this tune as part of a set in the key of D which I think sounded better.
Whichever key you play it in it’s a great tune! The set comprised as follows: O’Carolan’s Farewell to Music (in F), Chasing the Hare, Feabhra, P. Joe’s Reel, The Mountain Lark and Tom Doherty’s Reel with orchestration by Dave Flynn. Absolutely BRILLIANT!.
