Listen to track, there’s a lot of great trade-off between Ó Riada, Hayes, and Ó Raghallaigh. Very interesting and effective ways, IMHO, of accompanying the melody.
The structure of the tune is also peculiar and wonderful. 🙂
Feabhra means February
Is it based on the set Feabhra that Lúnasa play???
Hey Conor,
I don’t know, but I doubt it-- it was composed by Peadar Ó Riada.
Feabhra
On Peadar O‘Riada’s CD ’Triur Sa Draighean‘, ’Feabhra’ is played in C, which the notation above indicates. At the concert at The National Concert Hall, Dublin on 24/11/2010, which was broadcast on 16/03/2011 on RTE Lyric FM, Martin and Dennis played this tune as part of a set in the key of D which I think sounded better.
Whichever key you play it in it’s a great tune! The set comprised as follows: O’Carolan’s Farewell to Music (in F), Chasing the Hare, Feabhra, P. Joe’s Reel, The Mountain Lark and Tom Doherty’s Reel with orchestration by Dave Flynn. Absolutely BRILLIANT!.
Hi Guys, this notes is about the ‘Feabhra’ record by Lúnasa?
Re: Feabhra
If you’re looking for the Lunasa set, try Thunderhead instead. Link: https://thesession.org/recordings/15?tune_id=732
It’s listed as: An Erc’h War An Enezeg (Snow On The Island) , Brenda Stubbert’s, Thunderhead
