This tune is called ‘The Water Slide’. The ABC automation on this site chops off the ‘slide’ (because it thinks it’s a qualifier not part of the actual title). Anyhow it’s in G dorian and sounds reminscent of something else but I can’t put my finger on it (this is where somebody points out it’s the music from a Scots Porridge Oats advert from the 1960s or something similar 🙂 )
It has similarities to both ‘The Road to Lisdoonvarna’ and ‘The Haughs o’ Cromdale’, but not close enough to render it a variation of either. It’s more like a tune I heard on a porridge advert…….
Road to Lisdoonvarna
The Road to Lisdoonvarna could be an influence definitely - I like that one (well I like both the slide and the reel). Don’t any Haughs though 🙂 Will look out for it.
Maybe I could send the tune in to a porridge company…..does anybody still advertise it? 🙂
The Haughs o’ Cromdale makes a guest appearance in ‘O’Neill’s Cavalcade’ from time to time. It has other titles and is on this site as ‘Tralee Gaol ‘:
