On Den Album (Just around the Windows)

Composed by the very well known breton guitarist Soig Siberil.

This lovely walz is enlighted by Jean-Michel Veillon on Irish flute

You can have a preview and buy the tune on ITunes store.

Breton Waltz

l transcribed this tune from Breton flute player Sylvan Barou at the boxwood festival in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. He didn’t know the name of the tune. It has beautiful ebb and flow, almost like a meditation or series of breaths some short , some long. Sounds wonderful when he played it on the flute , works well on the fiddle and I think it would sound good on concertina or accordion. .

Re: Breton

Forgive my ignorance- would one swing or give lilt to eighth notes (like in a hornpipe?) looks like a gorgeous tune

Re: Breton

There. Is a swing to. It but it’ in 3 so not horn pipe or waltzy , Breton tunes have often a mantra like quality , I play it as if you are walking with a slight rocking motion

Re: Breton

With all those quavers, it looks very much like a mazurka or bourree rather than a straight waltz, both styles of dance popular in central France and Brittany.
