This seems to be a notation Will H. posted to the discussionforum some time ago:

😏

At least someone bothered to comment on this, and add another transcription. Appreciated…

:-d

So, duh!, it’s a direct rip off of Will’s transcription!? Worse than just another dump-and-run, not even bothering to credit their source. Now if only there was an animated smilie of someone with a grimace shaking their head… Sad!

The tune Will wrote down was taken from a comhaltas video, it was played by a Leitrim girl as a gan ainm. I sort of identified it as a tune which appears in Joe Liddy’s first collection as The Brickyard only Liddy’s version is shorter and in G major.

Thanks, it’s good to know something more about it…

I apologize for not crediting the source; I am new to this website and was simply placing the song in the tune book since it appears that it was never transferred from the forums. I was hoping that by placing it here, someone could either put the tune into sheet music format or instruct me how to do so, so that the wonderful tune played by Lisa Ward could be enjoyed by all.

That’s what this page (or any of the MANY freely available ABC programs) is for:

http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html

Only the owner of the site has the ability to convert ABCs to sheet music here, and that’s definitely not what the tune database is for. As it was, the ABCs, and hence the sheet music, was already able to be enjoyed by all. Nevermind that the video is an even better way to learn the music ;)

Comhaltas Live #338-4 - the 25th of December, 2010

All-Ireland Senior Fiddle Champion 2010 Lisa Ward from Drumshambo, Co. Leitrim plays a jig ("The Brickyard") in the competition.

The brickyard

y’know, I had a crack at learning this many years ago and just couldn’t get it to ‘go’. I could sort of hear it but couldn’t just get the grip on it. Thanks for posting the link to Lisa Ward - as the saying goes ‘I can read music but it helps if I know the tune’.

Whatever your opinion regarding dots and ears at least there is some sort of record of the man’s ability as a tunesmith.

apologies to Prof. Prlwytzkofsky, I thought it worth referencing in case anybody might want some more info; not knowing whether it’s still available even.

I must delve into this book again, I’m sure I’ll find something I can manage eventually!
