By Brian Finnegan
Hear Marcos on this….
Hey, I totally was about to post this tune… There’s only one note that’s wrong here, in the third bar it should be "cAE G2F", as opposed to the F#.
Also, sometimes in the B part it’s played "BGD B/c/d~f-|fdA d3"
This is a really excellent tune, first heard from clips of Brian’s big band, and asked him to record it for me at Burwell.
Here’s a clip of Brian playing it solo, I also have him playing with Ed Boyd:
|:DE/F/G G2d|dAF D2d|cAE G2F|DE/F/G AFD|
|DE/F/G G2d|dAF D2A|~G2g fed|1~e2f dAF:|2~e2f- fdc||
|:ABB cd~f-|fdA ~d2f|eAd efa|f2e- edc|
|BGD B/c/d~f-|fdA d3|AB/c/d gfd-|1d4 dc:|2d6||
This is my transcription from Sleeper:
DFG FGd|dAF Dz d|cAE G2f|DE/F/G AFD|
DFG FGd|dAF Dz A|G2g fAd|1e2f dAF:|2e2f- fdc|
|:BGD cdf|fdA def|eB/c/d efa|f2e- edc|
BGD cdf|fdA d3|AB/c/d gfd-|1d3- ddc:|2d3 dzz|]
(Tune actually sounds in Eb on recording.)
Can anyone confirm if the Flute Brian is playing is an Eb? I’ve tried this on my D flute and a Low F whistle but neither sound right. The closest I got was half holing on the flute which is really hard!
