This is one played by the novelist, Thomas Hardy, and his forebears. It was written down in a manuscript book given to Thomas Hardy’s grandfather by James Hook c1820 which had probably belonged to Hook’s father. Here’s the setting published in “The Dorchester Hornpipe”, a selection of 34 tunes from the Hardy mss, edited by Joan Brocklebank and published by Dorset County Museum in 1977 to mark the 50th anniversary of Hardy’s death.
