Transcription of the tune as played on Meabh O’Hare and Conor Byrne’s album, *Bavan*, where it is listed as traditional. I assume it’s Breton, and it may not technically be a polka. Corrections appreciated! 🙂

Re: War Hent Trabrin

My daughter’s hand in marriage and 1/2 my kingdom for a translation of this title! Into English, of course.

Re: War Hent Trabrin

And your daughter is o.k. with this? Ah, if only I hadn’t neglected my Breton studies …

Re: War Hent Trabrin

Is it not "over" or "along" "the Trabrin", or whatever Trabrin is?

Re: War Hent Trabrin

Scottish singer Jamie McMenemy lived in Brittany for many years, and produced an excellent solo recording called "The Road To Kerrigouarch".

Re: War Hent Trabrin

Mister McGillis,

Allow me to decline your proposal concerning your daughter who has my fullest consideration as well as the one concerning half your kingdom. I’m married and must maintain a too large garden. I hope you understand.

"War hent Trabrin" means: "On the road to Trabrin". I don’t know of any place named "Trabrin" in Brittany and it doesn’t sound breton to me.

Re: War Hent Trabrin

Thanks to all. Dan, I like yours the best. Simple. Since you’ve declined the offer I’ll try and find my daughter; she’s been in hiding for the last week. Thanks for letting me off the hook on the kingdom issue as well.

Re: War Hent Trabrin

There is a Trabin in Poland but I fear that leaves us none the wiser.
