A pun on ‘Luachra’?

"Sliabh Lucan" polkas

I believe so - seem to remember the "Sliabh Lucan" polkas, - this one, plus possibly 1 or 2 more, came from "Stockton’s Wing", and were original compositions, not traditional.

"Letting Go"

They were on an album called "Letting Go", which doesn’t seem to have been posted here yet. I remember hearing these tunes played as background music in the bank in Miltown Malbay some years ago at the Willie Clancy week. 🙂

If this tune is to be a polka..

… your ABC should probably read:

instead of the strange 4/4 cum 15/16(!) you’ve submitted!

Your transcription needs fixing. First of all, you have 4 beats in a 2 beat time signature - you need to decide, are you going to write this in 2/4 and submit it as a polka or 4/4, in which case you’d have to submit it as a barndance. If you decide 2/4 polka then you need to take all the numbers out of your transcription so that E2B2 B2>A is changed to EB B>A. Otherwise, if you want 4/4, you need to change it to a barndance and take your > signs out and make it E2B2 B3A otherwise your timing’s going to be way off. The best way is to learn how to do abc by looking at loads of examples first and then check the midi file using an abc converter after you’ve written something.

Someone’s edited it for me. I pasted the original into http://www.waterpigs.co.uk/pig/ and it was fine. I have to admit to not being up to speed on abc. I’ll get there, with help. I didn’t spot a 15/16 anywhere…

Nice work getting the editing done before Jeremy converts it to sheetmusic!
