“Billy Craib’s Reel” ~ C: Jim Johnstone ~ for Jim Johnstone Appreciation Week

Well, this is the end of the week and this is my last contribution for the week of another of Jim Johnstone’s tunes, this time a reel. I was hoping someone would submit one of his marches or 2-steps, but maybe another time.

If this sparks an interest you can chase up more of Jim Johnstone and his melodies on numerous recordings, some of which are on this site, and you can also find 50 or more of his compositions here:

“The Jim Johnstone Collection” ~ available from numerous Scottish sources online… I thought I had it, but, alas, I’m not finding it, but I have lent things out in the past that never made their way home again. I can only hope that if that’s the case it is bringing others pleasure.

I’ll add another transcription for this one later. I did check YouTube but didn’t manage to find a listen for you. I’ll see if I can find a recording and add it to the database, or, hopefully someone else might.

It is part of the grade 5 syllabus for the Scottish Music Graded Exams for Fiddle. They’d probably earn demerits if they chose to follow my transcription… 😎
