Andrew’s March

This is the first of the three tunes played as a set on Kathryn Tickell’s CD, ‘Back to the Hills’ (Andrew’s March, Kielder Schottische, Shirley’s Reel). Please correct the type if polka isn’t the closest (march wasn’t a possible choice). This is my first ABC posting, so please advise of any mistakes also. Finally, any information as to the history of the tune will be appreciated. Here is the full ABC format:

It was apparently composed by Archie Dagg (1899-1991), of Upper Coquetdale:

"Primarily a shepherd and fiddler, Archie took to pipemaking, and particularly reedmaking, when he retired. He is responsible for some beautiful tunes which are commonly played by pipers today. His tunebook, ‘A Coquetdale Garland’ has recently been reissued. "

Just revisited my CD and found this tune. I have just returned from Sweden where I witnessed hundreds of fiddlers playing together.
I couldn’t help feeling that this tune played at a very steady speed would not feel out of place amongst the Swedish tunes I heard. some of the structure has a Swedish feel about it.
I like it very much and wonder what Archie Dagg’s musical influences may have been.

Composed by John Dagg, not Archie Dagg

With respect, although Archie Dagg composed various other tunes, on Kathryn’s sleeve notes for "Back to the Hills", she credited this composition to "local accordion player John Dagg".
This attribution is confirmed in a report of Glendale Accordion & Fiddle Club 40th Anniversary celebration in 2013, see
https://boxandfiddlearchive.weebly.com/40th-anniversary-glendale.html
"One particular tune played by the band does rate a mention however, that being ‘Andrew’s March’, composed by local retired musician, accordionist John Dagg, yet another long term stalwart of the Club, who was sitting in the audience and replicated every note, even with his now painful fingers!"
