Brady’s

This is the first of two tunes on a track called “Unapproved Road” from ‘La Nua’ by Lunasa. The second tune is “Connacht Heifers”-

There’s no credit given for this tune, so I’ll assume that it’s traditional. Not sure about the key- it starts in Ador and ends on a D note backed by a G chord, if I’m not mistaken, so I put it in Dmix.

Hope the ties don’t make it too difficult to read.

Duplicate, kind of…

This is actually a 7/8 tune based on a jig that’s already in the database, posted by me a few years back. The jig was popularised by Arty McGlynn and Nollaig Casey on their album “Lead The Knave”. Funky 7/8 tune, but really, the jig is plenty good enough without faffing about with it imo. The jig is here: https://thesession.org/tunes/2654.

Here’s a more accurate transcription of the Lunasa tune. I did it from a sound clip on itunes which didn’t have the last 5 bars or so, but I could see where it was going.

Thanks ‘Dow’. This is the first time I’ve tried to write 7/8 in 4/4; quite by accident, I must admit. Now that you mention it, I should have noticed from the rhythm- trying too hard to figure out the notes and, I’ll reckon the ties in this case are a dead give away to what I’d done.

Might see if we can ‘poof’ this one and make yours the entry.

Any chance the Lunasa arrangement’s a bit polyrhythmic?

You are the only person who can do that since only the person who originally submitted the tune can edit the abc. You can cut & paste mine if you like but I think it would be better posted in the comments of the jig.

M: 7/8

All you need to do is edit the ABCs, but first adding M: 7/8 before the transcription, and you could just cut and paste Dow’s transcription so ~

😏

I tried to make sense of your erratic transcription but couldn’t, and don’t know the tune, but am well familiar with 7/8. At least Dow chased up an audio and did what I would have done. I trust his results. Though I find some of what you’ve done ‘interesting’, trying to make a decent 7/8 transcription from that? ~ I tried and I gave up… Your bars as 8 count 4/4 just don’t make any sense…

M: 7/8 ~ ?

Sorry, I did give it a go, working just from your transcription…

For history’s sake if this survives ~

Be sure, if you do let this stay and do the corrections, to move it where 7/8 usually find a place, either under 6/8 jigs or 9/8 slip jigs, though some mixed meters end up under ‘barndance’ for some reason… :- D

I’ve added the good Dr.’s transcription and changed the tune type to slip jig.

Thanks.

You have two K: lines. You will need to replace the 2nd one with a new M: 7/8

Why did you add 3 extra double barlines into the transcription I did? They shouldn’t be there…

I think that means my mum’s beaten me again and my dad’s getting a giggle out of how girlish it makes me.

Hope that should do it.
