Mercury Falling

Lovely tune, from the second recording of the band Guidewires. Actually the tune is in F# minor (not in A major), but I don’t know if there’s a way to write the correct key on the ABC tab.

Composed by Pádraig Rynne, from Ennis co. Clare, concertina player of the band. This is what the CD’s sleeve notes says about the tune: "Pádraig is a fan of Sting’s music and took inspiration from his song ‘The Hounds of Winter’ to write this tune. The first two words of the song are ‘Mercury Falling’".

class tune, class transcription, thanks for posting!

Key of F#m

Actually, A major probably isn’t the worst place for it; the 6th of the tonic scale was amongst the harmony scales at one point in time. (i.e., it ends on F# several times, but at least to my ear still wants to resolve to the the tonic, A, not the 6th, F#).

Not sure what to call that type of arrangement, but lovely tune.
