Da Peerie Hoose Under Da Hill

Traditionhal Shetland reel collected by Tom Anderson

Da Peerie Hoose Under Da Hill

It’s always useful to note where the tunes which are submitted come from. This is very slightly different from the version in Anderson’s book ‘Ringing Strings’ (Shetland 1983); did you transcribe it from a record, Edgar?

Peerie meaning small

I just looked it up and thought I’d post that to save others the trouble!

Fun tune!!

Not to be confused with ‘Da Peerie Hoose Ahint Da Burn’ (the small house behind the stream).

The Orkney equivalent of ‘peerie’ is ‘peedie’ and a ‘peedie hoose’ is a name given to a lavvy (WC). I’m not sure if Shetlanders use the term the same way.
